Sinclair Gabriel was not the type of person who did alone. No, he didn't prefer crowds, but he couldn't stand alone. And yet, he stood alone among the beach dwellers, pondering life as the waves came crashing into his body. It threatened to knock him off his feet each time, but he wasn't deep enough to feel the full force, so his balance remained intact. Well, for the most part. He wasn't one to point out that he'd fallen flat a few times (which was 'fixed' by him stepping back, the next logical move)
Fortunately, at least for his mood, few bothered to approach him, though he looked the part of any of the rest of them on the beach. He had left his shirt in the sand, allowing his exposed skin to redden in the sun. In the way of pants, he was wearing what any would expect- a pair of swimming trunks of a solid black variety. Despite the attire, Sinclair's lack of social skills scared people off, at least for now. Whether this was really the result of them picking up on he wouldn't answer, or because they just didn't care, he didn't know. Those who had bothered so far were met with silence, as though the boy were deaf to them.
He wished he was, but he rather liked the sound of the waves so missing that wasn't worth avoiding the annoyance that was other people. The sound was like a warning before they collided with him. It was simply beautiful. Times like these proved life was good, and that he could withstand anything with enough persistence. It was also one of the reasons Sinclair loved the ocean. Since coming to Bayville at twelve, the ocean was his favorite place to be.

This was the place you could expect to find Calypso. The Sea Goddess. But, whatever. That was just mythology. And she wasnt even Greek. It was still a nice thought, as she did have a natural affinity for water. Oceans, especially. They were divine. So gorgeous, they could break your heart. She found it kind of sad that she was the only one that could see them with such brilliance. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what you dont know cant hurt you.
The sand was hot; the kind of hot that made you dance and sprint for the water simultaneously. It was interesting to see how the sand seemed to absorb the colors of peoples steps. The pools didnt radiate out as far. Calypso only noticed this once she was standing in the shallow surf, cooling her sand seared feet. The water was what truly captivated her, though, and by the time she had thought twice about it, she had gathered up the hem of her sundress in her hand and was walking out deeper into the ocean, trying not to stare at the bright multi-colored sparkles that surrounded and trailed behind her.
A few feet away from her stood a boy who looked like he could be about her age. She watched him for a few moments before walking over to him casually, as if she wasn't just some random stranger attempting to introduce herself.
"What do you see?" This question was more important to her than, "Who are you," or "Whats your name?" Everyone had a label. And it seemed to her, he may have something more valuable to say, rather than the standard "Water."

Sinclair wanted to be mad. He wanted to open his eyes and glare, he wanted to snap at her. So he did open his eyes, and he did look over at her. But, by the time he did so, he'd had time to consider her question. What did he see? He looked more baffled now than angry. He had to think about his answer now. Water was obvious, and Sin wouldn't be caught dead saying it. But it confused him, trying to think of something else when there really was nothing else.
"I see. . .Possibilities. I mean, the waves. They're working against you, but it isn't that hard to stay upright if you know you want to. They got it wrong, looking up to the sky for inspiration. The ocean's more realistic."Sinclair answered. It was what he was thinking, though he didn't know why he felt comfortable enough to share it with her. He didn't try to question it He was content just to know she'd asked and he'd answered.
"What about you? What do you see?"Sinclair answered, turning to face her so that he didn't have to look to his side. She seemed interesting enough to talk to, at least for now.

His answer made her smile, and watch the waves crash against her legs. There were possibilites. More than he could ever imagine. More than even she could imagine. She had seen it take away everything she ever had in one slow, life defining event, and she had seen people ride the same waves, become apart of the ocean and master it.
Calypso laughed in her lightheared, unconcerned way. "Thats a good question," she said, pondering what her answer would be. What was the ocean to her? She hadnt considered what her answer would be, say he asked her. Her own response would influence what she thought of his answer, and then there would have been no point in the question to begin with.
"I see... power. Raw, unstoppable power. This ocean, this is one of the most stunning things I have ever seen. It could suck everything into it, and we could all be lost. This town, this country, this planet. Everything built upon it, every soul living upon it. But it can be just as gentle, just as serene." Calypso looked to her company and motioned towards a baby attempting to swim with his floaties, little extentions of safety keeping him out of reach of the undertow.
"Without the ocean, we wouldnt be able to live. It controls, well, just about everything. The weather, the rivers and streams. It sustains life. Every life. But you know, there's always this possibility of impending doom. Tsunamis, things of that nature. Easy come, easy go." She said this almost quietly, as if she were speaking to herself rather than them. Those thoughts, the ones that sustained her sanity when the sea had taken her life away from her, she was sharing them with this complete stranger, hoping that maybe some one else could see it too. Could see how the world worked as a team, how it was all miraculously connected by the flow of the energy of life.
"Power, and possiblity." Calypso concluded, looking over at him, wondering how he would react to all of this. Most people would shy away, and she almost expected him to, also. It wouldnt bother her too much. She was pretty well used to it.

Sinclair chuckled when she said it was a good question. He wanted to add,'well, you asked it!' as though by doing so, he was stating that she was full of herself. But he refrained. No need to be mean. She probably wouldn't realize that his jokes didn't mean he didn't like her, anyway. Before he could really worry about it, he found himself listening to her answer. Power? Well, yes, but wasn't that obvious? Rather than power, he could tell it had force. Physical power, that's what the force of the waves were. Fortunately she explained further. It did have a lot of power in the way she meant, too. After considering it, power fit more than possibility even.
Sinclair followed her gaze curiously, smiling at the sight of the baby. He was not particularly paternal most of the time, but even he couldn't deny a little kid. Especially when they were doing something cute, like trying to swim. Sin didn't let himself get wrapped up in the little kid, though. He turned back to Calypso instead.
"You're right,"Sinclair agreed. It was a bit more thinking than he wanted, even though he'd been the one to turn the conversation to a symbolic word game in the first place. "The ocean is very powerful. But I think it's power is what provides the possibility. Without power, no one would take it seriously." Sin knew something about being taken seriously. His voice was so disarming, so hauntingly beautiful that few thought he was more than a pretty boy. That wasn't the case at all, though. Sinclair Gabriel was the boy who was going to make a name for himself one way or another. He wanted everyone to know his name, which was a big motivation for joining the Corporation. But, he didn't offer his name. He didn't offer it to Isabelle, either, which earned him the name 'Mystery'.
"Easy come, easy go, that really is a good way to explain it,"Sin added, rather suddenly. It seemed to fit well enough, a fact that seemed illustrated by the way the waves would crash into him, then receed just as quickly. "Never thought it was that important, though, y'know? Not before now."

"Thats kind of tragically human, though, isnt it? Nothing is ever as important until, somehow, we're faced with it," Calypso said with a light smile tugging at the corner of her mouth; one that only existed because this kid, this stranger had found a reason to laugh, even if it was a pathetic little chuckle. Contagious.
"But everything aside, it's all the same really. Whether or not we notice it, it doesnt really matter. Its just our lives, yknow? Its not like any of us are going to make it out alive." Cali grinned. She stuck her hand in the water, attempting to intercept a wave at little to no avail. "See? We, as individuals, are very, very tiny in the scope of life. Only, life isnt really an appropriate word to use; you're a smart kid though, Im sure you understand what I mean."

{I love love love you right now. Sinclair's muse just woke up with me today, and I went, "OHH, I HAVE A REPLY!!"... I'm in a good mood right now. Which makes it odd that Sin would work for me today of all days. But he does!} " Tragically human indeed. I always wanna tell them to slow it down. They'll never win the human race anyway, y'know?"Sinclair responded with a shrug, as though what he was saying wasn't that important. But what really got him was her compliment. Sin was very egotistical- or, well, everyone assumed he was. But when it came down to it, hearing a compliment from a very pretty, obviously very intelligent girl, still made Sinclair Gabriel nervous. " Ah- yeah- well- thank you. I mean, I do know what you mean. That always bugged me, though. 'Cause like, people are compelled to believe in aliens and in higher powers that watch out for them. Is it just coincidence? What if there really is something out there? Y'know, like those creepy, 'what if I'm a toy in a model city and some kid's playing with me' type scenarios. We really are quite small, why would we be the top species in the universe?" {Haha, none of us will make it out alive. I made a signature that relates to that;; i26.tinypic.com/2hwvo6.jpg "Death is the price we all must pay," I like this song. Sin's so quoted it 'cause it cracks me up Every. Single. Time. Almost as bad as, "Try counting sheep, but there's one I always miss" Oh, boy.}
