X-Men: Cataclysm is set after the events of Inferno in 616 Marvel. A virulent disease, the wild card virus, has destabilized the government and shaken the country to it's foundations. Those who survive the disease find themselves mutated, often profoundly. In a rush of panic and fear, open war is opened up on mutant-kind. In the midst of this chaos, a shadowy figure known only as The Architect steps in and removes key mutants into safe keeping. In cracks formed by the crumbling infrastructure of the US government, in the guise of assistance, major corporations such as Frost International and Shaw Industries have stepped in to fill the gaps. Their power grows everyday that passes. This is the new world, welcome to the Cataclysm.
