"Shh,"Desirae insisted with a playful smile. She was obviously amused. She was sneaking a boy into the institute, after all! To be fair, she wasn't a young teenager with a crush- oh, far from it. She loved Sparrow more than she had ever loved anyone else. Besides, though Zachariah was cute in his own way, Sparrow had her heart. But Sparrow spent so much time away that Desirae found herself talking to both girls and guys indiscriminately. If Sparrow had been with her, she wouldn't have done anything different, except maybe prefer his company over the stranger she was friendly toward.
"I don't think anyone will come in here,"Desirae stated as she slipped in through the kitchen doorway, flipping the switch before waiting for Zachary to enter the room. She didn't trust him enough to completely shut the door, so she left it open a crack before she walked toward the sink.Desirae glanced down at her purple dress, accented with a jacket that was one shade darker than the dress, then straight down to her black shoes while walking. She wasn't a girl for high heels, so her shoes had a very small heel rather than one that would leave her to trip. And yet, she stumbled anyway, letting out a panicked whimper of alarm only to find that Zachary was there in a split second, keeping her from falling and then letting go just as quickly.
"Yes ma'am,"Zachary had agreed with a quick, obedient nod as he watched the shy girl lead him into the kitchen of the institute. Apparently he wasn't supposed to be in here with her, but he didn't care all that much, and she didn't seem to mind bringing him, either. He had turned his attention away from her as she walked toward the sink. He was more interested in looking around the room. But the room was small, so he looked back at her after a few seconds only to find that she was falling. Zach reacted quickly, his world going dark save for her outline as she slowly tipped forward, He wasted no time moving toward her and catching her long before she reached the ground.
Desirae blushed lightly, taking a step away from Zach when he'd let her go.
"Thank you,"Desirae stated softly
"Don't worry about it,"Zachary offered casually before he walked to the stove, absently turning it on and off to watch the flames, an action done to stop any further conversation about what he'd just done. Zach loved his ability, but he hated when people expected him to do it. That had been the problem with his life before- he was so 'famous' that everyone seemed to know that, when around him, nothing could go wrong. Or, at least that's what they seemed to take it as.
Desirae was definitely curious by the fascination Zach seemed to have with the stove. She walked over to stand beside him, watching the fire with him while silently wondering what he was thinking.
Zach didn't startle easily most of the time, but when he looked over and suddenly found Desirae there, he jumped back, his hand hitting a pan on the stove which then flew into the air, then fell to the floor with a loud, resonating clatter. Zachary didn't say a word, he merely stared at the pan in what appeared to be disbelief. Desirae had jumped at his side, but she didn't take her eyes off of him. It seemed they were both silently hoping that no one came through the door to check on them. Both seemed to realize that in a place like this, it was very unlikely that not a single person would be curious. Tempers tended to flair, and with superhuman powers, even simple arguments were reason for alarm.

Sparrow was so tired. He had been up all night talking with his recently appeared brother after two and a half years apart and then he hadn't slept well after that because he had continuously woken up in the night, wondering what Falcon was up to. He had been heading to the rec room just now to try and catch some sleep on a couch there while everyone else was out. Considering the time of day, his bedroom was just too bright for an afternoon nap.
At the loud clatter from the kitchen, Sparrow James halted in his tracks. Strange.. most everyone should be in classes or training right now. He had skipped training himself for sleep but that was besides the point. Never one to stray from curiosity, Sparrow headed for the kitchen door.
He opened it up a crack and peeked in only to see his fiancee Desirae there, staring at a pan in the middle of the room. Bewildered, he walked in and found the source of the nervousness on Desi's face. A guy.
Trying not to jump to conclusions, Sparrow crossed his arms and looked from one to the other. What's going on? He asked, praying he knew Desirae well enough that he could assume nothing had happened between the two.

Zachary was hardly ready for the person that walked through the doorway. If he could have, he would have hid. But he didn't, and he wouldn't. So he smiled instead. He would have explained himself, he would have told the boy he'd never met exactly what had transpired, but Desirae beat him to it, not that he was jumping at the chance or anything.
"Sparrow! Uhh,"Desirae began, glancing at Zachary nervously. Her nervousness did not stem from a sense of guilt over what they had done, because they hadn't done anything. Her nervousness was a product of the fact that Zachary wasn't a member of the institute, and yet she'd brought him in here anyway. Maybe if she didn't mention that. . .
"This is my new friend, Zachariah."Desirae stated. "I was just showing him around the institute." With that explained, she walked toward Sparrow with an innocent smile playing at her lips. Though she wouldn't lie to Sparrow intentionally, she really didn't know how he'd take it if she told him that she'd broken a rule. Not just any rule, but a fairly important one at that. Her fiance was the last person she wanted to admit it to. And the way he looked, the way he was crossing his arms and her and Zach. . . Desirae certainly didn't want to make things worse.
Zachary's expression revealed nothing short of surprise at Desirae's words, but he knew better than to argue with her. She seemed to know the boy, and he knew from the beginning that he wasn't supposed to be here in the first place. So, whatever she wanted to say to get them both out of trouble was fine with him. Besides, he didn't know the boy or anyone else in the town for that matter.

Of course, Sparrow took the look of anxiety Desirae shot "Zach" as something bad had happened. The old Sparrow would have run to Falcon for advice and perhaps a moment of clarity. But this Sparrow had been through too many wars and too many deaths to run away from conflict.
His eyes barely flickered towards Desirae as she approached him. His arms reminded crossed tight over his chest and his gaze was stony on the boy who stood in front of him. I think you better go. Now. Sparrow said cooly to Zachariah, stepping to one side so the kid could freely pass.

If Zach had been surprised by Desirae, he was even more surprised by this stranger. For a moment, all Zachary could do was stand there, watching Sparrow with an expression that seemed to perfectly blend amusement and, of course, his surprise. Then, when the moment had passed, he offered a passive shrug.
"Alright,"he agreed, walking toward Sparrow and Desirae. Instead of walking out, he stopped as he reached Desirae, seemingly so that he could say goodbye.
"Thank you. I'll see you around sometime, alright?"Zach didn't wait for an answer before he looked to Sparrow with a slight nod of affirmation, or, rather, just because it was his way of saying he was going now. And with that he slipped out of the kitchen and into the hallway with every intention of finding his way out of the building on his own.
Desirae wasn't alarmed or offended that Sparrow had asked Zach to leave, but she was mildly impressed that Zach had left without any argument. Obviously she'd been wrong about him earlier, but if she hadn't trusted him at all, she wouldn't have brought him in here. That was precisely the reason she watched him as he left, resisting the urge to argue with Sparrow's order and to insist that Zach stay. There really was no need to make it worse.
Desirae concluded that now was probably not the best time to hug, let alone speak to Sparrow as she normally would have. So she stood, somewhat awkwardly, watching and waiting for him. She would have spoken if she'd had anything to say, but she honestly wasn't sure if the crime he suspected her of was really worse than the one she had really committed. And, for a moment it was working well. But as the case seemed to be more and more often, Desirae's resolve was quickly spent and she did the very thing she knew better than to do.
"Zachary really is nice,"Desirae stated casually as though she were talking about something as normal as the weather outside. She caught herself before she said anymore, biting her bottom lip with a fair bit of nervousness now.

Sparrow raised an eyebrow as Zach slipt past him. He too hadn't expected it to be that easy. But he had to admire a guy who showed him that much respect without even an introduction or a name.
Sparrow's stern glance slipped from his face as the silence passed through Desirae and himself. All that could be heard in the stillness was the kitchen clock quietly ticking to itself. Finally she spoke, and Sparrow forced himself to look at her.
What happened? His voice was surprisingly steady considering the situation and how hurt and angry he was at the moment. It was all he could do to not transform under pure stress.

Desirae knew that with such a direct question, she had to answer. But it seemed that his meaning was up for interpretation- what had happened when? Since he didn't specify, she knew she could get away with answering broadly. But Desirae's expression shifted. It seemed that, rather suddenly, she'd come to the conclusion that she just didn't want to play games. It could be attributed, mostly, to Sparrow's expression.
"Sparrow, please relax. I'm sorry. Really, I am. I don't want you to be mad at me."Desirae pleaded as she, despite his crossed arms, moved against him with her hands resting on his arms while she gazed up toward him. As far as she could remember, Sparrow hadn't really been mad at her before It was not something she wanted to experience now, as it was happening, or again. .
"Zachary's the boy from the newspapers- maybe you've heard of him? The Guardian Angel kid, the one that saves people?"Desirae explained, posing it more as a question."I didn't know it when I met him, but he introduced himself at the park. He said he'd never seen the institute, so I was showing him around."
"The pan,"Desirae smiled unintentionally as she thought of how he'd jumped when she'd stood beside him, sending the pan into the air. "The pan was on the stove and he hit it by mistake, I scared him, he jumped, the pan was in the way."Desirae added.

Sparrow took a step backwards, allowing her hands to slip off of his arms. He swallowed hard and looked past Desirae, focusing on the wall behind her. I don't care who he is or what he was even doing in this place. I can deal with that later. Did you guys do something? Together?
Sparrow couldn't even imagine Desirae cheating on him. It would be devastating and completely destroy any trust they had built up. He supposed if that ever happened, he wouldn't even be able to go through with the wedding.

Desirae should have understood his feelings and his concern, but the only thing that came to her mind was the simple idea that if he could be mad, so could she. So, her eyes lit up, her expression shifting as she glared at him. Who did he think he was, anyway? Was he trying to be a total jerk? What upset her the most wasn't that he seemed to think she was lying and cheating on him, it was just that he'd stepped away from her. What was that about? She was trying to make it better and he was just making her feel guilty when she hadn't done anything wrong in the first place. How unfair was that? Desirae, quite simply, wouldn't stand for it. Not quietly at least.
"No,"Desirae answered, her voice suddenly full of emotion. It rose, but it never got to the point that she was yelling. She just seemed determined to make her point and if speaking at a louder volume made a difference, that's what she'd do.. And though he said that he didn't care who Zach was or what he was doing, Desirae didn't seem to care. As far as she was concerned, that was all there was to tell and she was sure that by giving him those details, she could explain exactly what she was doing and even why."I'd tell you to ask Zach, but I doubt you'd believe him even if you bothered to. We were hiding in here because he's not an X-Man and it's against the rules. He said he wanted to be away from people who knew who he was. Besides, I thought he might be hungry after traveling here. I was trying to be nice, something you obviously aren't very good at. You shouldn't be mad at me, I should be mad at you for making Zach leave in the first place. You had no reason to do that. But I didn't say anything. I didn't tell Zach to stay like I should have. And still, you're mad at me, Sparrow? You can be a real jerk, you know that?"

Sparrow had never really seen Desirae this mad before. Actually, they had never really had a fight before. But he wasn't going to back down now, he was still so frustrated at the situation. Even though he was relieved she hadn't cheated on him. But really, why shouldn't he be mad at her? Plus, who was she to get angry at him for this?
Why would I believe somebody hiding in the X-men kitchen when everyone else is out? Oh yeah, and he also happens to be hiding there with my GIRLFRIEND? Sparrow's own voice raised to a shout and his hands balled into fists at the mere confrontation. He would never actually hit her. Ever. You always do nice things Desirae and excuse me for assuming someone I have no clue of might take advantage of that! Not to mention his extreme nervousness which also leads me to the conclusion SOMETHING might have happened? Hell, how can I know anything when I'm not around at all and even when I am, you still hang around with random people that you don't tell me about! I get the fact you are independent but maybe you should get that I don't get the situation just by walking in on it! So if that makes me a jerk, then I'm a jerk! Sparrow's voice echoed through the kitchen and he took a deep breath when he finished, knowing full well Desirae's piercing glare was still on him.
By the way, he added coolly, crossing his arms again. I have every right to make any person leave the premises who does not have permission to be here. And if there is anyone I'd exercise that power on, that kid would be out of here faster than me if I was a cheetah.

"If I trust him, that should be good enough, shouldn't it? You're not the only one with good judgment around here, Sparrow. I did just fine without you, I don't need a babysitter. If I did, you wouldn't leave me alone to go on your missions. And not everyone would take advantage of kindness, the world isn't the big bad place you're making it sound like. If he was taking advantage of me, if anyone was, I'd come to you. But not everyone is bad just because you haven't approved of them. And I don't meet people on your schedule- my life doesn't revolve around you like it used to. You are not going to dictate who I associate with or what I do, Sparrow James! It doesn't work that way, and I don't tell you what to do so I expect the same respect from you."Desirae objected passionately, trying not to let her voice get as loud as his. In fact, honestly hearing him yell at her was pretty scary. She trusted him, even when he was so upset, but. . .This was new territory, this was a bit more serious than anything she'd had to deal with before. Besides, she never thought she'd be the kind of girl to argue with someone as amazing as Sparrow. She did love him, and this argument was something she wanted to end immediately. And yet, she went on fighting him, defending her point.
"You got one thing right, at least, you're not around. The world can't stop every time you go off to play hero. It did before, I let it, I sat by feeling sorry for myself because I depended so much on you. But you know what? No matter how much I missed you, no matter how hard it was to face the day without seeing you, it was even harder to waste so much of my time when neither of us were going to fix the situation anyway. But I never once chose a stranger or a casual friend over you, never. I wouldn't do anything different with Zach if you were right by my side other than prefer your company if I had to chose. I can like other people!"Desirae huffed, her voice not raised but her temper no less apparent."I'd rather be hiding in the institute kitchen all alone with him than outside in some park or something with him. At least then I could call for help and know that someone was bound to hear me. I did put thought into it, I'm not a careless innocent little girl who gets in over my head."
"You may have the right to enforce a rule, but I have a right to be upset that you'd go against my wishes. I invited Zachary in here, it wasn't like he broke in, it wasn't like he did anything wrong at all. I was the reason he was in here, and you kick him out without any sort of explanation at all. Besides, if I didn't want to be around him anymore, it's not like I couldn't just disappear as I should be doing right now rather than humoring your silly temper."Desirae retorted.

You know what Des? You're right ok? You're always right. You have perfect judgment and solutions to every situation and I am in the wrong. I guess you don't need me around since I will always be wrong anyway. Sparrow threw his hands up in the air, totally done with the conversation.
When you figure out that I am not trying to dictate what you do, let me know. Because every time I "play hero" the only thing I am thinking about is you. You're not the victim here Desirae, no matter how much you want people to think you are. So I guess next time I'm talking with some pretty girl, you can just walk on by. Oh and if she happens to give you a smug or ashamed look like the one I got from that.. that "kid" today, then you can just ignore it too. 'Cause apparently that is appropriate in our relationship, as long as we have someone to call if we need help. Sparrow shrugged and started to leave the room. But at the entrance way, he stopped and looked at her as if he were pondering something.
And by the way, I could tell you just how awful and despicable this world is, but it seems we are on two different wavelengths. Maybe even two different worlds. But you don't have to "humor me" anymore. I'm outta here. And Sparrow left the room, banging the kitchen door shut in fury.
{OOC: Where do you wanna go from this?}

Desirae jumped, then shivered as the door slammed. And, of all things to do, she didn't glare after him, she didn't decide to hold it against him, she merely backed up the two or so steps until she collided with something solid- the wall, which she then slid down until she was sitting, drawing her knees to her chest before she dropped her head into the fabric of her dress. This had been a bad idea. As if it wasn't bad enough that she'd broken a rule of the institute, she hadn't stopped fighting with Sparrow when she knew she should have, she'd just let herself get angrier and angrier. And now Sparrow was really upset. She wasn't sure how she was going to get herself out of this mess.
Before she could stop herself, she felt the tears sting at her eyes. She closed them tighter, fighting vainly against them. Suddenly she wasn't so tough, but she couldn't help herself and, perhaps in many ways she didn't want to. The worse part, in her mind, was that he had her figured out. And the things he knew about her were hardly things she was proud of. He knew her well enough to see through all her little games, it seemed. And his words that she should walk right past when he was with a cute girl, that hit her hard. She could hardly stand the thought of him mentioning a girl, how could she tolerate seeing him with one? Suddenly it seemed foolish to throw the fit she had. But his words stung deeper still when he said that they were on different wavelengths, or perhaps even different worlds. It was true that they lived different lives because of their power, but Desirae was not alright with him pointing out how different they really were. Would the feelings they shared be enough to bridge the gap between them and the lives they lead now? Desirae would have said yes without a doubt before the fight, but now she wasn't sure of anything at all.
Desirae was not one for feeling sorry for herself. She went through phases when she did feel sorry for a certain circumstance she was in, but she didn't let it last. And yet it seemed as though her whole world had just shattered before her eyes. She tried to convince herself that she was being dramatic, that she needed to pull it together, but the emotions surged so strongly that her logic did nothing to change her thoughts or her mood at all. She began to think about all the times she'd ran from things rather than facing them- a habit that caused her more grief than anything else. If she could have, she would have ran from this, and she knew that now with certainty- it only made her feel worse.
