There was no hiding the fact that Sinclair was alarmed by what she said. He stopped walking, partially to take in what she said and partially because he realized she wasn't as close as he thought and he knew he'd have to move slower now. Or, at least, he knew he was going to move slower now. He wasn't sure how believable it was- a little girl blind in the dark? That was a scary concept. And even worse was the fact that she'd been all alone when he'd found her. What if someone else had found her first? It was a scary world, and she was a very brave girl. It made him wonder about her power.
"Yeah?"Sinclair replied,"Hmm. Well, I could set the alarm off for you- I'm sure there'd be plenty of light then." Sinclair looked up to the sky, certain that the sky was going to lighten eventually, though he couldn't say when. "You could tell them I did it, too. The older members, the ones who know me, they'd get a laugh out of it, I'm sure." He had a playful grin, but what he was proposing was anything but just playing. Many people were woken by the alarm, if not everyone in that building. After all, it could be a real threat. So while it was cute in the day, it was like declaring war in the night. He wouldn't be making any friends, to say the least. And yet, he wanted the attention of it.

She giggled slightly at his offer to set off the alarm, not looking up at him. She needed the light on the path in front of her, and it wasn't like she could tell if he was being serious despite the fact it sounded like he wasn't. She took most things at face value, anyway.
Won't that make 'em mad, too, though?
She asked, wondering why they would laugh. It was an alarm system after all, and usually when those were triggered, it was bad, right? Of course, she couldn't imagine it producing many lights either. The only alarm systems she'd ever known were the little burglar alarms that Lore sometimes complained about, and they did nothing more than set off a silent alarm. No lights, nothing.

Though Lyra had a valid point in her logic that the alarms were usually silent, Sinclair knew for a fact that there would be a reaction in the institute if he tripped the alarm. It was no simple matter with so many people around and the enemy, the Corporation, being so close. But perhaps there wouldn't be loud sirens or flashing lights as he implied. . .The inside of the institute, each room, each hallway, would likely light up quickly enough and there'd be plenty of people to come out with their voices raised. But Sinclair wasn't going to explain that to her. He was too busy grinning as she asked if that would make them mad.
"Certainly,"he agreed."But they never do anything about it, so it really doesn't matter if they get mad." At least, that was what Sinclair thought. It mattered to them if they were mad, of course. And it had an effect on his relation with the X-Men as a whole, but that wasn't saying much for him.
"Making them mad is precisely the purpose."Sinclair seemed to suddenly think better of it, because he glanced down at her and decided to rephrase,"I mean, we should always be nice to others. Of course we should." It was hard not to, even if it was a lie. He looked at her, thinking of the influence his words could have, and he ended up considering his own sister and how he wouldn't want her thinking the way he did. He hadn't thought about his sister in a long time. . . He shook his head- right now was no time to bring up those memories.

She had decided that he was trying far too hard to be a good role model. Not that Lore didn't, but he didn't bother to correct himself when he said something he stuck to as a value that she shouldn't. Instead, he just informed her that he might see it that way, but it didn't mean she had to. He had always ensured her she had the right to her own opinion, and gave her enough freedom to figure it out, too.
Maybe we should, but that's not how the world works. That's how we want it to work. I'm young, but I'm not stupid.
She replied, an almost arrogant tone to her voice. That she had most definitely picked up from Lore, who was always bragging about this or that and never admitting he was in the wrong or imperfect in any way unless absolutely necessary.

Sniclair couldn't keep the smirk from his expression. She was an interesting child, one he'd be a bit reluctant to part with- or, that was to say, one he didn't want to see taken in by the X-Men rather than the Archangels. Oh well, he could do little to change the situation even if he had any intention of doing that.
"Of course you aren't. I would never think that you were stupid. In fact, I'd hardly think you were young by just listening to you. But never mind that. I know the world isn't the place we expect it to be, I know everyone's not always kind. What if they were? What if by being kind we could influence others? Like an infectious smile. I would rather like to change the world, or at very least, to be a part of the change." Sinclair shook his head, bringing himself back to the situation at hand. Why was he explaining that to her, anyway? He fell silent very quickly so that he could focus on leading her the right way to the institute..

We can try, but I don't think it'll ever be enough. Can't get rid of everything bad. Perhaps all the bad guys, but not everything bad comes from them. Sometimes it's just life and you've gotta deal with it.
She replied, voice falling to more of a murmur at the end, kicking at the ground a little at the same time, biting her lip. She was thinking of her parents, in this case. She didn't think they were bad people, not really. They just hadn't known what to do and did the only thing they could think of. Didn't mean it wasn't bad for her, that it couldn't have been better, but it also didn't mean they should go to jail or anything. It was just like light and dark. Can't have good without the bad.

{I'm on Jeff's computer so no color to the post.}
Sinclair shook his head. Her words were irrefutable, but that didn't mean he'd ever see it that way. He was not a particularly optimistic person, not by his account, and yet he didn't want to ever fall in the category of a 'realist', either. He was never going to prefer the reality to the view of pure belief. Only when necessary would he allow his mind to take it at face value- only when there wasn't a harmless alternative.
Lyra, despite her young age, seemed to be someone who knew what the reality was and didn't stray far from it. Maybe it was just her way of seeming grown up while Sinclair wanted to seem young, or maybe it was all that she'd obviously endured. It was not normal for a young girl to fearlessly make her way in an unfamiliar town, least of all one populated by mutants and certainly not while the girl seemed hardly able to see what was around her in the first place.
"You're right,"Sinclair relented anyway, shrugging casually. He didn't want to argue, he didn't want to frustrate her, he didn't want to know what else she had to say.
"This person you're going to find. How about we talk about him- do you mind telling me a little about him?"Sinclair questioned curiously, not that he really needed to know about this Lore person. He was just trying to pass the time, really, and to have a way of making sure she didn't disappear anytime soon.
